DeMeco Ryans earns impressive playoff win for Houston Texans as a rookie head coach
Although Alabama fans recognize that DeMeco Ryans has greater goals in life, he would have been the ideal option to return to his alma mater as head coach.
The NFL team that drafted the former Alabama linebacker as a player, Houston Texas, advanced to the AFC playoffs as the AFC South Division Champions thanks to him. Ryans’ squad dominated Cleveland in the AFC Wild Card Round at NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas, last weekend when it played the Browns at home. Ryans had Christian Harris, Will Anderson Jr., John Metchie, and C.J. Stroud prepared to play.
Metchie caught three catches for 44 yards, Anderson racked up three tackles, a tackle for loss, a sack, and a quarterback hit, while Harris turned in a monster performance. Stroud finished with three touchdown passes. In all, he recorded eight tackles, including two for loss, a sack, a quarterback hit, a pass breakup, and an interception that was recovered for a touchdown.
Ryans had the Texans suffocating the Browns in a 45-14 victory.
It may not be a Super Bowl team, but Houston is playing with a lot of confidence.
Ryans has this group prepared to make a huge postseason run.

It was an amazing weekend.
After hosting a carnival, er, DISMANTLING of the Browns at NRG Stadium on Saturday, the Texans advanced to the Divisional Round of the playoffs.
After a scoreless first quarter and a half, C.J. Stroud connected with tight end Brevin Jordan on a 76-yard touchdown throw in the second quarter to turn the game into a rout. Up to the game’s end, Houston scored 35 unanswered points, including that score.
**Up next: a trip to Baltimore or Kansas City**. Later today, the Bills play the Steelers; if Buffalo prevails, Houston will travel to play the Ravens. The Texans travel to Arrowhead to play the Chiefs, assuming Pittsburgh manages to pull off the upset. **Those two games are scheduled for this Saturday at 3:30 p.m. CT.**
