Tottenham Hotspur is set to submit a proposal to Wolverhampton Wanderers for the 22-year-old Brazilian midfield player Joao Gomes.
A report from the Brazilian publication Gavea News claims that Tottenham Hotspur is interested in Joao Gomes. During the January transfer window, the North London giants are eager to add a holding midfielder. Additionally, they are prepared to make a £30 million offer to sign the 22-year-old midfield player from Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Joao Gomes: who is he?
Since joining Wolverhampton Wanderers, Joao Gomes has shown to be one of the top young midfield players in the Premier League. Before moving to England in January 2023, the Brazilian midfielder spent his early years growing up in his native country and graduating from Flamengo’s youth level.
The second part of 2022–2023 was the 22-year-old’s bedding-in season as he took some time to get going at the Molineux. However, since making his way into the Black Country team’s first team and turning into a staple in the middle of the park, Gomes has not looked back.
Joao Gomes has gathered approximately 1,500 minutes of game time across 20 appearances in all competitions thus far this season. Due to the young player’s impressive development, numerous prestigious teams have taken note, including Tottenham Hotspur.
Joao Gomes is wanted by Spurs.
Tottenham is interested in Gomes because of the uncertainty surrounding Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg’s long-term future. The Danish international could go in the winter, although it is unlikely that he will stay at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium past the 2023–2024 campaign. Pape Matar Sarr and Yves Bissouma have left to take part in the Africa Cup of Nations.
As a result, Kalvin Phillips and other midfielders have come to Tottenham Hotspur’s attention. Joao Gomes, though, is another possible target for the North London team. In addition, the Premier League’s biggest clubs are getting ready to offer the 22-year-old Brazilian midfielder £30 million to get him to leave Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Wolverhampton Wanderers’ decision over whether to accept a bid during the January transfer window remains unknown. However, recovering £30 million from Joao Gomes’s sale could be a compelling offer for the Black Country company. When Flamengo, 22, departs Wolverhampton Wanderers, he can potentially get some money back. It will be intriguing to watch whether Tottenham is able to acquire him.
