Sheffield United linked with talented 22-year-old Premier League Star Player
Sheffield United and Hull City are hoping to sign promising Brighton midfielder Marc Leonard this summer.
The box-to-box midfielder has been plying his trade on loan at League One outfit Northampton Town this season and the 22-year-old has impressed in his second year at the club and has claimed the Player of The Season award as well as the Players Player of The Season.
Leonard incredibly started all 46 of Northampton Town’s league fixtures this term, registering five goals and six assists in the process. This comes after the player also received high praise for the Cobblers last term in their League Two promotion campaign.
According to Football Insider correspondent Peter O’Rourke, the Blades and Hull City are seriously interested in signing the talented well-rounded midfielder and could acquire him for a fee in the region of £300k. Leonard’s contract at Brighton is set to expire in the summer of 2025, hence the low fee, and it is thought that the Seagulls would allow him to leave permanently in the summer.
Sheffield United already have a couple of talented young midfielders of their own in Andre Brooks and Oliver Arblaster, and they could well add to this bright crop with the acquisition of Leonard in the upcoming transfer window.
Whether Leonard could instantly step up to the mark in the Championship is a question, however for a heavily discounted price it does seem like a risk worth taking as the upside would be far greater than the downside.
